Oat Bran Cookies

On the Dukan diet for 2 weeks. Down 2 lbs, and craving sweets! Making these tonight….

Can I just tell you how freaking excited I am for these cookies?? They are low-fat, low-carb, AND dukan-friendly! Not to mention one cookie will give you your full 2 tbs of daily oat bran. That may not necessarily be a good thing because I can seriously gobble up a dozen of these a day. ūüôā

Up to this point, I have tried MANY variations of cookie recipes that would cater to the low-fat, low-carb rules of the Dukan Diet and every last one of them have been god awful (no exaggerations here). Everything from the non-fat bitter chocolate globs from a few weeks ago to the flimsy, eggy what-nots from just a few days ago. I was close to thinking GOOD Dukan-friendly cookies simply could not be. That is, until earlier today. This recipe combines the most simple ingredients and takes under 10 minutes to prepare. They taste

Wordless Wednesday

I can’t recall the first time I heard the phrase “Wordless Wednesday” , but it was so appropriate and timely for me today.¬† For the life of me, I can’t think of much to say.¬† My friends would say “You’re kidding!”¬† And yes I always have something to say…. ūüėČ

So today I’ll let my work speak for me! (lazy huh?). Yup it is….But today I’ll wear the “lazy” moniker with pride.¬† Maybe I’ll even convince you that it really isn’t “lazy” just “show and tell”.¬† Sounds good enough to me!¬† If I say it enough,¬† I think I can pull it off.

Soooo here goes…..Show and Tell it is…

In recent years I haven’t been able to do much of my lampworking¬† Asthma has dictated how much time I spend on the torch, and after several years of trying to get it under control, I’m finally at a point that I can start really focusing on my Lampwork again.¬† For those of you who are not familiar with lamworking…. It’s a process of melting glass in a torch, winding the molten glass around a mandrel, and then creating fabulous beads.¬† I’m¬† still reaching for fabulous, but after 18 years on the torch hopefully I’m getting the swing of it. LOL

So until I have some really cool¬† new work to show…here’s a tease of some¬† of my earlier work… Enjoy, and feel free to comment…

Designing For Profit

I absolutely love pinning on Pinterest.¬† It’s kind of like an “online” bulletin board, with not mouth, but eye drooling images. I use it as a task list, an accounting of work I’m doing or in progress.¬†¬† I spend an inordinate amount of my time on Pinterest, but I can easily justify doing so,¬† or so I keep convincing myself, that it will improve visibility of my produce, when in fact, I’m a glutton for provocative ( not sexy LOL) images. With the amount of time I spend there I should be flowing in sales. I’m not sure if the numbers tell that particular story, but what I can tell you… definitely humors, calls out to¬† me, and satisfies my need to do something visually…. all in the name of growing my business.¬† So with my best Valley Girl impersonation I’ll say….”Best excuse ehhveeeeerrrrr”!!!
Whoooooaaaaa…. you say…what¬† happened to Designing for Profit? That’s still coming…I just have to share this image from Pinterest first! ūüėČ

Whadda you think?! New way to store your dentures– or– safety measure to keep the wrong fingers out of your change purse!? LOL

This one is enough for the day…not sure how I really feel about it… on one hand I just want to stare, and on the other hand, to some degree, I want to say Eewwwww. I’m picturing¬† all the lint in the bottom of the coin purse…uuugggghhhhh, and then the artist in me wants to feign the “artiness” of it all.¬† The teeth are pretty though.. wouldn’t mind a set of those for myself!¬† As to the “art part”….I’m still on the fence….. So I think I’ll just keep staring. ūüėČ

But let’s get back to my topic….. it’ll be brief, ’cause it’s 12:30 in the morning and I’m whipped.. so brief it will be….. ūüėČ

Perfect as a dangle

Recently I started carrying a line of pewter findings, plated in sterling and gold, to help build my shop and allow me to make jewelry at an affordable price. I’ve been experimenting with these new components, and they’ve been fairly successful at my shows. I’ve also been able to keep the cost of class kits at National teaching venues lower, thereby helping to ensure my submissions are accepted.¬† For the first time, 4 of my submissions were accepted at one show alone… Yippeeeeee!¬† Two (2) of them use a variety of these components…..

These have been well received with the interest in vintage styles. both fast and easy to make using 5 simple components:

* Ear wires
* Sterling Plated Earring Frame
* Digital Image
* Sterling Plated Locks
* Jump rings

Total assembly time? Less than 5 minutes… of course that’s after the digital image was set in resin. That process was pretty quick as well…simply cut your image , drop in the frame, add a few drops of resin…. and you’re good to go.¬† I did have to wait the 24 hours for the resin to cure… but still really quick. I think I did¬† a dozen pairs in under an hour…..It takes me so much longer when I’m working my glass… and quite a bit more expensive as well.

This is absolutely my new favorite.¬† It’s actually a connector.¬† The purpose is to connect, or more simply put, bring two things together… I’ve found them to be great as earring components and cheaper than buying the¬† actual chandelier earring component…

And the earrings that they were used in….

Assembly time? 10 minutes max. Most of it was spent making sure the length of chain used was equal on both earrings and/or making sure they hung within themselves nicely.

These were perfect to introduce at the wholesale show I was showing in at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. Quick and easy.¬† Two vitals for a successful wholesale product line.¬† Oh, and you need customers of course! LOL¬†¬† Lots of them……

More images….all self explanatory…..

And a simple necklace using a few charms, small beads, and chain links.¬† Easy Peasy!….. This is not my design…borrowed it from TierraCast…the maker of all¬† these components.

If I can wrap my head around everything that needs to be done tomorrow….. and¬† my “muse” finds me an extra few hours , the plan is to have some of these on my Etsy¬† site…..crossing my eyes, toes, fingers, and some unmentionables that it will happen!¬† I’ve got about 50 different components that need to finally get listed…..;-)

27 Unspoken Suit Rules Every Man Should Know

I make things for women. And sometimes I make things for kids. So my writing typically deal with topics related to women and kids or things that women are interested in. In my quest to develop “an eye” for designing for men, I keep coming across¬† sumptuous, and super sexy items for men,¬† OK,¬† to be truthful—¬† sometimes¬† the men in the ads too. ūüôā¬† .¬† Shame on me, I probably need to make a trip to the “confessional”. But it’s probably ok as long as I stay on my diet of “husband”. LOL

Anyway, today I’m serving up a “side order” of¬† 27 Unspoken Suit Rules Every Man Should Know

Did you know….

¬†Tomorrow I meet with Delta Sigma Theta to see if my work is accepted for their Auction in April… I’ll let you know the outcome!

Putting Thanks into Action

Recently, I came across an artist that donated all of the earnings from the sales of their product line to charitable causes. The amount in one year that was donated was awesome! It was more than the average worker makes in a year….and just from the proceeds of their product line. I am in awe of this person.

I’ve been looking for a way to give back more…I’ve been blessed several times over.¬† And although I’m extremely thankful, there’s always that feeling that I could do more.¬† Because no matter what adversities I’ve faced, there always someone with a bigger heartache,¬† a more serious health issue,¬† or a bleaker future. I’t puts my issues into perspective.¬† I’m very fortunate,… My parents were awesome in their support of me, I have siblings ( a lot of them :-)))¬†¬† ) who¬† encourage me, give me a shoulder¬† to lean on, and¬† who allow me to laugh at myself. I have a loving , (although he can push my nerves like chalk on a chalkboard) husband, who has allowed me to be me. He’s truly a very brave man.¬† I’m not sure he knew what he was getting into some 20+years ago. I have children who respect and are not afraid to say I love you mom… and very special friends who are more like sisters than girlfriends.¬† Three of whom have been a part of my life since 5th grade! And 2 from high school. I’m sure we never though we would still be all together.

I see the glass as 1/2 full— not 1/2 empty… But I need to do more. I need to put my thanks, and gratitude into action.

So for today, and at least once a month, for the next 12 months, I will be serving “a side order” of¬† Giving Back!side order giving back_edited-1

Last month I received an invitation to donate some of my art to the local Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Annual Art Auction.It’s a “don’t miss” event for art lovers and collectors in the metro Detroit Area. It’s a juried auction, so this Saturday, I have to go in front of a panel of jurors ( the people who make the decision) to see if they will accept my work.

This is what I’m proposing….

Delta colors are red and white so, this Glass, with this flower, but with a combination of red and white flowers…

¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† And¬† this pitcher, with this flower,…but like the glasses, a combination of white and red flowers….

I’ll let you know what the decision was…
